ANDREW CAREY, Photographer / Artist

 

Andrew was born in Atlanta, Georgia and now resides in Los Angeles, California. He earned his BFA in photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he first learned the craft of "pinhole" photography. He instantly connected with the craft and has been doing it ever since.

Now, all of Andrew's images are shot in the classic pinhole style. During the pinhole process light from the scene that Andrew wants to capture passes through the aperture or "pinhole" and projects an inverted image onto light sensitive paper on the opposite side of the box or 'camera' that Andrew constructs himself. This is known as the camera obscura effect. This effect creates a negative image which he develops in the darkroom. He then uses this negative to print the positive images you see here. All images are then signed and editioned by the artist. This unique process is what truly sets him apart from other artists.

Andrew strives to capture the essence and beauty of human and nature in a very raw and subdued format.
